A short but pleasant walk to the pretty Ruen monastery |

Ruen monastery St. Ivan of Rila is situated very close to Dupnitsa. We accidentally found it searching for another monastery. The road leading is steep but you can get there by car. The more we climbed, the prettiest the landscape became.

The monastery was built over the ruins of an old church. It looks quite new and modern on the outside, but the history behind it is very long.

We took a stroll in the beautiful backyard and then we moved to the forest above. Up on the hill, there is a cave where Saint Ivan of Rila  spent some years of living.

The path to the cave will take you to another picturesque spot –  the so-called “cross”. There is a wonderful panoramic view from it.

The area around the Ruen monastery is great for a picnic or just for a short hike. The terrain is pleasant and nature is more than breath-taking. What do you think of it?

It's so nice when we stumble upon places that are worth a visit and we didn't even knew about them :) I'm truly impressed by all the beauty and I would love, love to take a walk to that place. Wonderful photos, Sany!

  14. Hi Sany! What a great trip! I really liked your walk - like always you found very charming location and I can't agree with you more - the more you climbed, the landscape was getting more and more beautiful :) And one more thing - I envy you (of course - in positive way!:)) the sunny, autumnal weather - in Poland is still raining or it's so cold, that it's hard to plan a lovely trip anyway, so lucky you, Sany! :)
